Overview
DelayScaper is a dual dynamic delay effect designed to produce inspiring, and sometimes very unpredictable results that literally responds dynamically to audio input. Playing an instrument through DelayScaper can be especially rewarding when you adjust your playing to what you’re hearing, because DelayScaper can be configured to constantly modify its parameters according to the intensity and spacing of your notes. It’s like having five extra pairs of hands twiddling knobs for you!
At its core, DelayScaper comprises two identical stereo delay modules that can run in series or parallel. While it can cover “normal” delay duties, including host tempo syncable delay times, DelayScaper is really for those who like to experiment with sound, especially in the atmospheric and ambient realm. With a maximum delay time of 8 seconds, you can even use DelayScaper as an old-school “free looper” for “Frippertronics” type evolving soundscapes.
DelayScaper also features two bonus “one knob FX” effects that are both original designs that complement the core delay processing:
“Octave Grains” is a randomised and delayed pitch-shifting algorithm that sits somewhere between a pitch-shifted delay and granular shimmer effect.
“Random Reverse” does what you might expect it to do, but often in an unexpected way!
Both algorithms will grab random sections of the incoming audio, process it, then feed those into the main delay processing.
The dynamics section is where DelayScaper comes to life, and includes dedicated envelope followers for both delays, which can then be used as a modulation source for up to 5 delay parameters for each delay. For example, you can modulate the mix level to create a “ducking delay”, or modulate tone so the delay repeats get brighter or darker depending on how hard or softly you play.
A “cascade” feature sends the output of the first delay into the second, allowing you to fine-tune the balance between parallel and series mode.
